Sthgil etihw gnidnereven erom on. [Mar. 29th, 2006|01:32 am]
hey all!

We welcomed Dan back from NYC tonight with a visit to our local radio station and with a fine band practice.

Thought I'd take a sec and tell you about a few new things here at iloveshaker.com

1)We have the new Shaker Shop up and running, as I'm sure you've noticed.
2)I've just posted tonight some pictures taken by Wenda Atkin from canadajams.ca of our trek to CJIQ FM tonight. You can find them in the "photos" section.
3)This past week saw the debut of three new songs to our myspace page, which you can access through the "band" section.
4)Some gigs added and new gigs in the works, so stay tuned!

It's late, I'm sure I'm missing something! I'll come back and edit if need be!

See everyone on Thurs night in Cambridge!

Shaker Autobiography To Be Released Within 20 years! [Feb. 10th, 2006|04:21 pm]
Wow!
It's really hitting me now that we have actually recorded a professional record.
In case you can't tell, mixing is going amazing! It so cool to have heard these songs in my head for so long, and now finally get to hear them coming out of the speakers. I must admit, they aren't far off from what I first heard...although as with any art, the artist grows and evolves, and some of the songs have gone through a few transformations. But hey, I am stoked and proud as anyone could be of everyone in the band! We have stuck together through all sorts of stuff, (Book to be released in the future...story isn't over just yet.) and came up with a great album!!
It's a funny feeling to let go of the songs that we have recorded. I've held them close for so long. To have an idea grow inside you and nurture it to fruition, then release it to the world is possibly the most satisfying thing I've ever felt.
These songs are yours now. Let them move you, captivate you, motivate you, and most of all, share those feelings with everyone you know. And know that we all put our collective heart and soul into them.
But we're just getting started...
Much love,
Mr. Brooks

Rockin' around never dictates your Lancaster eruption nearly nightly over Xanadu. [Feb. 7th, 2006|02:48 pm]
[music |"United Nations In Varied Egg Roll States" Annie Lennox]

Really happy with the mixes of "Standing on the Lawn" and "The Girl Who" from yesterday, and Chad has just started working through the drums of "Clock Radio" today.

Also, let me just say this now. Late night trips to the Waffle House, however delicious, may make it nearly impossible to even think about eating again for at least 48 hours.

Not ones to let a minute in the studio go to waste, we just enjoyed a little jam time upstairs in one of the live rooms while Chad stepped out for lunch. It still hits me everyday how fortunte we are to be here doing this.

During the month of March we're looking into playing a few shows when we have the time. So if anyone has any city/venue suggestions, they'll defenatly be taken into consideration!

Ya'll have a good one!

My ammunition, won't load into my gun. [Feb. 5th, 2006|06:19 pm]
Hey all,

It's Superbowl Sunday and you can tell just by driving around down here. It's madness man. Watching "High Fidelity" on the tele and in the middle of "Superbowl Supper".

Spent the day at the studio today mixing "For Those Who Stand Behind Us". Couldn't be happier with the way things are coming out. I probably heard that song front to back about 200 times today and it still made me move on the 200th pass.

We saw C.T. guest with Carson Slovaks band Century last night here in town. Very very heavy show. Chad held his own though and powered through a solo that he'd recorded for their album "Faith and Failure". It gets me everytime when Chad breaks into his "Chad-stomp". I feel it's right up there with Chuck Berry's duckwalk and Angus Young's rock-arobics.

Check out the music section for an updated video stream from our last gig on the 19th. Id petitioned canadajams.ca to upload my entire drum solo, and they kindly complied. "Throw Your Good Side On" is also included in the clip, so check it! We watched it at the studio with Chad today. It was alot of fun! He played me a newer mix of one of his new songs "Mystery" as well. What a song! Lookin' forward to his latest rekkid "Songs From Black Mountain" which is coming out in April.

Over and out for now.

Stuck with your bad(ass) shirt!!! [Jan. 24th, 2006|11:25 pm]
Hello all,

Since my last posted our album has been firmly placed "in the can", and is on it's way to being mixed at the end of this month. We've played two very successful shows in Cambridge at Fiddler's Green and are looking forward to whats shaping up to be a very exciting year to come!

I'm in the midst of working on our merch selection. More buttons, shirts (in all kinds of styles and sizes), hats and fun trinkets are on the way! This stuff will be available through this website, and at our live shows! I can't wait to get my own shirt to wear!!!

Ive been thinking of designing not only "Shaker" shirts, but shirts for each individual member of the band. If you have any ideas for designs and whatnot, drop us an email, or a message in the "friends" section. I'll go and create a topic for that right now in General Discussion.

I just watched a video of my drum solo from the 19th. A friend of mine recorded it with a small digi-cam or video phone feature thing, so the quality isnt the best, but it was great to see it all the same. Maybe Steve and Wenda at canadajams.ca will host my entire drum solo as a streaming video on their site?!?! Hint, hint!! Haha. If you'd like to see that, maybe drop them a line and let 'em know! YEAH! haha. 1 man, 2 drumkits, 1 bar, two different ends of the bar, 1 drum solo....c'mon!

Oh man, hope everyone's having a great week so far. We're all going to try and write more to you all on a regular basis.

We'll have updated live pictures in the next few days as well, so stay tuned.

Yours,
Robbie Butcher (Shaker)

Merry Ho Ho! [Dec. 18th, 2005|12:51 pm]
Hello to all Shaker friends and fans. Merry Christmas to everyone this holiday season. We would like to say thank you to all the brave souls who made it out the other night for our show at Fiddler's Green in Cambridge. It was another snow filled night with great music all around starting with Andrew Butcher ripping a great acoustic set to start the night off right. Our good friends from the band The Droops followed with an impeccable performance that left many funked up!!! All in all the night was a great success!

On the album front, we have had a lot of positive feedback from the "industry" since our return. The feedback ranges from labels, and managers, to club owners and agents. We anticipate good things for 2006! The album is currently being mixed, which is step 2 in the process. From there it goes to Mastering, which is the final step in the creative process. Then it's strictly business from then on. We can't wait to share this album with all of you!!!

Have a safe and happy holiday season!!
From all of us in Shaker,
See ya in 2006!

There's A World Out There, If You're Up And Ready! [Nov. 11th, 2005|08:23 pm]
Well, as we near the end of the recording phase, we've decided on a title for the record.
"Throw Your Good Side On" will be released some time early in 2006. I am busily cutting vocals for the next week. So far I have two songs in the bag: What Lies Ahead, and Clock Radio. The latter looks as though it will end up as our debut single!
On a side note, we all celebrated Spatch's birthday in Sayreville, New Jersey. We were treated to a rockin' show by Chad and the boys in +LIVE+. I'm also excited that we will get a chance to showcase some of the new material live...December 15 @ Fiddler's Green in Cambridge, Ontario. It'll be the only show until we get the record released, so make sure y'all come out! Plus we'll get to say Merry Christmas...
I miss being home, but I love being here! Not a bad dilemma to have...
Peace.
Daniel

Hey! Hey! My Heart and Soul.... [Oct. 30th, 2005|05:02 pm]
...Belong to Rock and Roll!!
Wow!
What a record we are making here. I am so excited about this, I feel like a little kid on Christmas Eve! We have finished the music part for 5 of the 6 songs for this half of the record. I am getting ready to sing my heart out this week. It seems as though the 6 songs we chose this time are a little more mature, and are definitely adding a whole lot of color to the album.
The working title for the record so far is "Throw Your Good Side On", which is a term I came up with for a situation in which you're meeting someone new. In that situation you always seem to be on your best behaviour, you know what I mean?...You throw your good side on for a minute.
Anyway, the songs are sounding killer! We are having a blast, and can't wait for you all to hear it!!
We have shot lots of footage, which I am sure will make it here at some point for y'all.
Happy Halloween!!
Peace.
Shaker Dan

Hey,

As I mentioned on the Friends Message Board yesterday. The drums for our record are basically finished. I'm really happy with the results and with the speed in which Dan and I have laid down the foundation tracks, we're already three days ahead of schedule.

Here are the tracks as they will hopefully appear on the record (some titles may change), there's a story going on through these songs. So pay close attention, decipher the clues, and win a secret prize!! Not really.

A side:
Up & Ready (Clock Radio)
The Girl Who
Saturday Night
For Those Who Stand Behind Us
Rock N Roll
Stuck With Your Bad Luck

B side:
Throw Your Good Side On
Dynamite
Lost Myself In You
The Drifter
Standing On the Lawn
What Lies Ahead

peace,
Robature

Wordless Chorus [Oct. 12th, 2005|09:40 am]
hey all,

I nailed down the drum tracks to the songs "Rock N Roll", "Dynamite" & "What Lies Ahead" yesterday. They're sounding pretty good. With the a-sides laid down last month. It's now time to go back and fill in the record. Tell the story a bit more.

Today I have the songs "The Drifter", "Lost Myself In You" & "Clock Radio" ahead of me.

I'm really excited to see what Dan comes up with for "Clock Radio", its sounding better and better everytime I hear it.

Got to check out My Morning Jacket and Kathleen Edwards last night just down the street from where we're staying. A great show!! Jim Bryson reminded me of what a fortunate spot we're in. Getting to travel to make a record. Having such a great opportunity with a pretty heavy hitter in the industry in Chad Taylor.

Taylor's the man by way. He's got a new album coming out in March. I've had a chance to hear bits of it, especially this song "Love Shines", and it's extremely catchy!!

All for now, I gotta get to the studio.

Back in the US, Back in the US, Back in the US of A! [Oct. 8th, 2005|10:43 am]
As my first entry in the journal, I say a big Helllloooo to everyone!!!

First of all, we are back in the US to finish recording our debut album, which is yet untitled. As you may or may not know, it is being produced by Mr. Chad Taylor of LIVE (yes...Lightning Crashes) fame. He is so great to work with, so I am very excited to be back! I have been writing lots and I can promise you all that this record will be something else! I will keep you posted on everything that goes down while we are here. I speak for all of us when I say, I can't wait to share this with all of you!

Second, I want to thank some people. Chris and Robature for working so hard on this website! Cheers boys, it is friggin awesome! Steve and Wenda at Canadajams.ca for following us to shows and making us feel special. Great videos and pics!! If you haven't seen their work go check their site out now!

Finally,
Rock. Roll. Shaker. Great.

Peace.

With a great weekend behind us and another ahead, we've been having a great time!

It was good times at the Horseshoe this past Friday as we opened for the Jimmy Swift Band from Halifax. So many friends in attendance, it's crazy, all of the singing along and our album isnt even out yet.

We'll have photos and video from this gig online soon.

The next morning it was a not-so-bad drive up to beautiful Quebec for the Pop Montreal Festival. Saw a bit of the city before the show with Dan. I hadn't seen Cuff the Duke or The Adan Brown before this weekend and I really enjoyed both bands greatly.

Thanks to the Pop Montreal festival and The Sam Roberts Band for having us. And to Matty Mays for the props in The Post.

This weekend we're heading back to Pennsylvania to finish the recording of our record with producer Chad Taylor (of the band +Live+). I'll try to post here with our progress as much as possible, and get the other guys posting with me.

John cut his hair and shaved his moustache yesterday. I wonder what he looks like. haha.

For now,

There's something in the air [Sep. 7th, 2005|08:10 pm]
Yikes, I'm still reeling from the crowd we had at last nights gig with Sam at McMaster University in Hamilton. What an audience!

As Dan mentioned earlier in the day, you can always tell when it's gonna be a good one. There's something in the air. And there must've been something in the water too. The audience was jacked! I'm sure the Sam band would agree with me, it was certainly one for the books!

Thanks to all of the McMaster staff, and the Sam Roberts Band for having us!

Last night totally made getting up early to go to work today easy on the soul!

Peace,
Robature

First born. [Aug. 20th, 2005|10:00 pm]
Hey friends,

This is our online journal, where we can interact with all of you!

We'll be posting info and commenting here, regarding our live gigs, recorded music, and various aspects of our daily life in the Shaker continuum. My brother wanted me to use the word "continuum", instead of "world", what a bossy jerk.

Check back with us as often as you like, and feel free to make comments.

For now,
